Creating a Classroom Newspaper
In this project, students will learn about the basics of journalism and create their own classroom newspaper. This project will cover the following learning outcomes:
- Know the basics of journalism, including the 5 W's and H (who, what, when, where, why, and how)
- Understand how to write a news article
- Can create a classroom newspaper with articles, headlines, and pictures
Methodology
Start by introducing the concept of journalism and the 5 W's and H. Show examples of news articles and discuss what makes them effective. Then, have students brainstorm news stories that are relevant to their classroom or school. Assign each student or group a story to research and write about. Provide resources such as books, articles, and websites to help with research. Once the articles are written, have students create headlines and add pictures to their articles. Finally, compile all the articles into a classroom newspaper.
