Methodology:

Resources/Materials Required:

Instructions:
Week 1:
- Begin the lesson by asking students what they know about government. Write their responses on chart paper.
- Introduce the concept of local government and explain its purpose and functions. Use examples from the students' community to make it relatable.
- Divide the class into small groups and assign each group a specific local government service (e.g., parks and recreation, waste management, public safety).
- Ask each group to research and create a poster or presentation about their assigned service, including its importance and how it benefits the community.
- Allow time for group presentations and encourage class discussions on the different services provided by local government.
Week 2:
- Review the previous week's discussions and ask students to recall the different services provided by local government.
- Introduce the roles and responsibilities of local government officials, such as the mayor, city council members, and school board members.
- Organize a mock election in the classroom, where students can nominate and vote for their classmates to play the roles of local government officials.
- Assign each elected official a specific task, such as creating a new park or improving school facilities. Encourage them to work together and make decisions as a team.
- Conclude the activity with a reflection session, where students can share their experiences and discuss the importance of local government in their community.
Assessment:
To assess students' understanding of the topic, the following activities can be carried out:
