Methodology:

Instructions:

Step 1: Introduction (Know)

Begin the lesson by asking students what they think a genre is and why it is important in reading. Write their responses on the chart paper or whiteboard.

Step 2: Genre Definitions (Know)

Introduce the concept of genres by providing clear definitions for each genre (fiction, non-fiction, mystery, fantasy, biography, etc.). Use genre definition cards to display the definitions and discuss examples of books from each genre.

Step 3: Genre Sorting Activity (Understand)

Distribute genre sorting activity sheets to each student. Instruct them to cut out the book titles provided and sort them into the correct genre category. Encourage students to work individually or in pairs to complete the activity.

Step 4: Interactive Discussion (Understand)

Once students have completed the genre sorting activity, facilitate a whole-class discussion. Ask students to share their choices and explain their reasoning. Discuss any disagreements or uncertainties, providing guidance and clarification as needed.

Step 5: Applying Genre Knowledge (Can Do)

Divide the class into small groups and provide each group with a different book from a specific genre.
